Ever since I began to blog, the gray on my head has been expanding at a rather alarming rate. If this continues, before long I’d have a sparkling white thatch sitting atop a youngish face, and this catastrophe would’ve been brought about by the decisions that I must make to continue being a blogger.
Among my bigger blogging decisions is “what should I blog about?”
I know it comes easy for some bloggers, or how could they end up blogging twice, even three-times a day? Those are the bloggers I hope to emulate, they are the ones who I put on the burnished-to-a-blinding-shine pedestal that I reserve for my Gurus, and yet, despite having observed them for the last six months, I am no closer to discovering a solution to my decision making problem.
Every morning, I wake up early, switch on the computer, and vow that I’d write a post on my blog, but before I even type the first letter of the first word in that scary white box titled “Add New Post” I must decide upon a topic. And that’s where I experience an unsurmountable Blogger’s-Block (BB)!
Right now, among the topics that are milling against one another, trying to get my attention, three have been rather successful. These three are listed below.
- Should I write about Twitter’s momentous decision of replacing their rusty old stars with brand-new, strawberry-red, skipping and dancing Twitter-hearts, and talk about how for my friend Chandraketu, a little red heart changed into a menacing skull symbolizing hazard and danger?
- Should I post about the goofy look that permeates wifey’s features when she looks at Salman Khan hosting Bigg Boss 9 and its connection with her sudden urge to buy an Oppo Smartphone!
- Should I talk about the fascinating pro-male festival of Karvachauth and ad (a rather “revealing” one,) that reminded me of the Karvachauth battle that had raged in our home ten years ago?
I have a feeling that each of these three ideas have the potential of winning the Idea-Supremo contest. For now, as Salman Khan says in Bigg Boss 9, I’ve put these three ideas in the frying pan. I’ll let them fry until the next post, when it would be decided who gets picked up for the post…(Who knows it could be a fourth, totally new idea, a wild-card entry?!
Until then, do whatever you want to do friends, and do double, but don’t cause any trouble!
Translating the Indian to Phoren (Foreign – or in this case, English)
- Chandraketu: Just a nice but somewhat uncommon name for boys, it means: Light of the Moon.
- Bigg Boss 9: The Indian version of the Big Brother reality show. It’s hosted by Salman khan, one of the biggest Stars in Bollywood.
- Karvachauth: A Hindu festival celebrated by married women with a goal to ensure long-lives for their husbands. (An excellent cause – but the women must not eat nor drink anything from the time they wake up, until late in the evening when they’ve seen the moon.)

Thank you, Meg. Do you have a preference among the three? I could blog about that first. Order-a-post.

So not being totally familiar with Big Boss and Khan although I do know who he is, the Twitter change to hearts over stars might be the most relevant to me! But who am I to decide?!? 😀

As I said, Order-a-post 😀 The next post to be served on this blog is going to be about Twitter Hearts. Thanks for helping me decide.

I have a similar quandry, but for me it’s too many ideas running around in my head and I’m never fast enough to catch one long enough to even write a draft. But I don’t have to worry about the gray hairs, I have them well hidden with hair dye.
I’ll keep blogging if you will! *GRIN* We really would hate reading your QSM posts.

coloring my crowning glory isn’t an option that has occurred to me yet. The silver strands make me look distinguished, I think. Wifey feels otherwise.
Did you say “hate”? That word has the potential of breaking even my unbreakable heart. I can feel it cracking…

For some reason most men do look more distinguished with some gray, especially if they have dark hour. Women just look older.
Ouch! I just looked at my comment. What I meant to say was that we would hate to see you quit writing your QSM posts. My fingers and my brain don’t always work in sync. I hope this mends the crack in your heart, if not your head.

Over centuries we’ve trained our minds to think like that – or why white that is universally preferred over black, which as a color has more positive connotations than black, would be considered bad? Stuff to think and blog about.
And thanks so much for explaining the hate bit – crack mended and filled with gold.

Thank you, Jacqueline. Your comment has removed my blogger’s blog…at least for a week.

Yes, blog it all, but not three times a day. Those people annoy me. I think they’re the ones who in high school would remind the teacher there was supposed to be a test that day. We’d beat them up after school.
Don’t make me beat you up. 🙂

Aha…so there’s an underside to overblogging. Most of these silver-linings embellish a dark cloud. Your wait for the opportunity to beat me up will yield no results – I struggle to make two posts a week 😀

I agree – blog it all! If I had to pick, I’d say the one about the festival and the ad, as that sounds like it has the best possibility for humor.

Ok Tim, and thank you for helping me prioritize. First the Twitter-hearts, then the Women-only Festival, and finally the Oppo-wifey-Salman triangle.

With a science blog, I don’t have this problem! There is always something to write about in science! I do wish for more time though 😦

Time is a scarce resource…and it gets dearer with time – how does science explain it?

You can save your post as a draft on OSB and I can publish it. I like having the author’s name at the bottom of the post so that readers don’t get confuse who wrote it. You can always write another post!!!

Ok Heather. But I am not sure when I’ll get around to doing it. Perhaps you could call this a guest post and just add it. When I do the next one, I’ll post it myself.
