Drum Rolls for Donald Drum – Trump finds a Supporter in my Mom!

Donald Trump, with his golden locks and green stocks, finds a supporter in my Mom.

Scooped from “Drum Rolls for Donald Drum” – The QSM Magazine Issue #0 (September 2015)

Caricature, Cartoon, Sketch of Donald Trump - Republican candidate for US 2016 Presidential elections - Parody, comedy by Anand - Published in QSM Magazine.

“Mummy Ji, it’s not Donald Drum; it’s Donald Duck,” wifey’s voice laced with subtle sarcasm floated into my ears. I squared my shoulders, took a deep breath and braced myself to play the moderator.
Puttar, I know about Donald Duck. If you remember, I’ve brought up two brats. Don’t try to be smart with me!”
I heard Mom’s voice and knew that it was time to intervene. When mom comes visiting, I become extra sensitive to any exchanges between these two women who rule my life.
I rushed up, opened the door and planted myself in mom’s line of fire.
Oye puttar, tu apni votti ko samjha. (Son, make certain things clear to your wife.) She shouldn’t mouth off to her elders!”
I took the sheepish middle-path of silence. Both of them take my silence as my acquiescence to their views.
Mom went on.
“I am talking about Donald Drum. You know, the golden-haired man who’s fighting elections in Umrikka?”
She was right on all counts except his name. I imagined Trump wearing a langot taking on all those other Republicans in an akhara.

Based on Anand‘s and Oneta’s feedback below, I’ve made The QSM Magazine pdf available through a simple subscription.  I will email the pdf to you. Online reading may indeed be tedious for some of the readers.
Anand/Oneta: Thanks for pointing it out.

Non-Hindi Readers: Please note that Langot and Akhara are clearly explained in the Magazine, so I am not repeating the translations here. Puttar translates to son, in this particular sentence, mom had used it for wifey, and so she had laced it with a heavy dose of sarcasm.

    Hello guru 🙂

You are forcing your readers to go to QSM magazine now? 😛

I was enjoying this article and then went to QSM. It’s really difficult to read it over there even when I extend the pages and zoom the fonts-out. Please think from reader(bloggers) view-point too. I am sure when we get a hard-copy out it will be a great fun. I am voicing out honestly because I feel we are way past initial phases of taking offense on honesty.

This is a wonderful carricature. I don’t have a printer handy else I will have taken your permission to print-out and read, but sadly, it’s difficult to read in QSM format right now and way too easier in this format.

    Best Wishes,

    Anand 🙂

      Vibrant,
      Following are my responses:
      1. QSM is a free magazine – and you can choose not to read it. I am not forcing my readers to purchase/read it.
      2. Right in the Editorial I say that you can print it out.
      3. The font-size is much bigger than most magazines out there. As I said earlier, I am not Richie Rich – barely managing. Gotta pay the rent and feed family, so though I’d love to, I can’t go for the hardcopy printing.
      4. I would like my readers to really check out the magazine and this is why I added one of the articles here. It helps if they can see what they’ll be getting if they downloaded the magazine.
      5. I am not the best magazine-guy out there, but I made an honest attempt by putting in 20 nights worth of effort after work. I hope some of my readers will enjoy it and I am content with those some.
      6. I genuinely think about my blogger-friends and understand their viewpoint, and I hope they too will understand my constraints and viewpoint.

Thanks again for your candid opinion.

I am not experienced with online magazines so that might be the reason why I did not appreciate your efforts fully 🙂

No. Broken. I think this is a better term. Somehow your kindness hasn’t really come through. You spoke for all fellow bloggers, implied that I have “forced” them to read, said that I don’t care about them. What isn’t true – doesn’t work, even as feedback.
        Thanks again.
        Best wishes for your blog.

I am really sorry. I don’t know how something which is supposed to be a joke could sound so harsh. 🙂

Please delete my comments if it makes you feel any better and that first line was indeed a joke. Rest was the feedback on helping us all read better. 🙂

I don’t feel you don’t care about bloggers. How will I know that? And who gives me authority for that?

Please don’t feel bad. It’s true that words can’t be taken back–but you should see that it was a joke 🙂

Did I ever say anything before in any of comments?

        I am so sorry 🙂

Vibrant. What’s done is done. This comment stays put. I would like to remember your words. They will serve as a benchmark.

Please don’t apologize. There’s no need to. Your feedback has helped me in a different way. It has left me stronger.

        Best wishes for your blog.

It’s ok, Anand. I am feeling a lot better this morning. You take care. With same names and opposite personalities, we are bound to clash sometimes.

        Hahahah 😀
No not opposites. It was certainly my mistake. I am learning to be more aware of my feedback and words. It has been my weakness and yesterday I realized it more deeply. Now I should not repeat the same mistakes again 🙂

We both try to cheer people up in our own way. You certainly are much better at it than me. I am learning from you 🙂

        No need to clash 🙂

        Love and light ❤

It’s ok vibrant. We are both learning. I was hurt because you said that I was “forcing” and “I didn’t care”. In fact, your opinion on online reading was rock-solid. This is why I now have a new page for “direct-in-mailbox” subscription page for The QSM Magazine.

I am glad you have come up with something 🙂

But until eternity I will not admit that I meant you were “forcing.”

That really doesn’t make sense. I used a tongue smiley and it was a joke in the vein of our former conversations in commons 🙂

I know when miscommunication happens we can’t really clear the air too soon. Still, my intention was never to hurt and will never be to hurt you or anyone else in any way. I will keep hating myself if i did that 🙂

I feel it was my lack of tact/skill in communication and I am working on that. Since actions speak louder than words, you will observe improvements in my communication in days to come 🙂

I am not blaming you or myself. Some things just happen. And even if an artist does what you think I was hinting you were doing–it’s not wrong by any means. I am no artist and you know that. I have heard that you are an artist only when you get money for your work. I am not going to get any money for my work ever–I am not an artist and i don’t really understand value of art to the full. So my abject apologies for all miscommunication and harsh suggestions. I am going to be careful–it’s a lesson for me.

Thanks for being so patient with me 🙂

You “guys” are hilarious. Haven’t read the magazine yet, but your comment section has cinched me doing so. What hurt Anand’s feelings so badly? I guess it was the word “forced.” Maybe if he knows I wasn’t forced to, he will feel better. I promise I will come back free from any feeling of having been forced. I am just persuaded. (Is that better, Anand?)

Much better. You are an astute observer of human nature, Oneta. Forcing people to do anything isn’t my forte. One of the reasons I gave up management and went for programming 😀 Under his new bearded avatar, our Spiritual Anand is a nice kid, but yes, I disagree with his judgment sometimes.

Anand, I don’t mind a bit of teasing, a dose of self adulation, a bushel of baloney and promotional come-ons, even manipulation and persuasion BUT when I came back to finish the Trump article I can’t find it! That’s a bit much! I thought maybe the headlines on the front of the magazine was like a menu, which would be very clever, but that didn’t work, neither did clicking all the blue and red letters I could find. Please send Vibrant (the helpful one) to tell me how to access this article.

Oneta, it’s the first article in the magazine. It’s on page 3. So you just need to flip two pages to get to it. The menu is on the left inner page…a quirky one, I guess. I am looking for a website where I can put the previous issues up as a simple downloadable pdf. When the next issue comes out that is. Issuu helps me see the stars, that is the only reason why I’ve put it there…and it’s fairly easy to view it on any tab too.
